Economic, Political, Pandemic Factors for Chinese Border Arrests

According to data from the US Customs and Border Protection, there has been a sharp increase in the number of Chinese citizens being arrested at the southern border of the United States. In January of this year alone, 1,084 Chinese citizens were arrested at the border, compared to just 89 in January of last year. This represents a year-on-year increase of 1,118%. Additionally, from October of last year to January of this year, border patrol officers in the southern border of the United States arrested 2,999 Chinese citizens, an increase of 719% compared to the same period last year and exceeding the total number of 2,626 for the fiscal years 2021 and 2022 combined.
